Julie's Favorite Desserts

Yellow Cake Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/c cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 eggs

Preheat oven to 375°

In bowl combine flour, sugar, and baking powder.
Add milk, margarine/butter, and vanilla.
Beat with mixer on low until combined. Beat on high for 2 minutes.
Add eggs and beat 2 minutes more.
Pour into greased and floured 13x9 cake pan.
Bake for 25to30 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center of pan comes out clean.
Cool on wire rack.
When cake has cooled frosting with your choice of frosting.

Boiled Frosting
  • 1 and 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine sugar, milk, and cocoa in large sauce pan.
Cook over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.(place small amount of frosting, about a teaspoon in a small bowl of water, if ball forms frosting is ready)
Remove from heat. Add vanilla and butter. Stir until blended.
Frosting will set very quickly, it is important to spread on cooled cake immediately.

My Grandmother used this recipe from "Better Homes New Cook Book" to surprise us with a yummy treat when we came home from school. The fudge frosting was always the best part!
