Julie's Favorite Desserts

Sugar Cookie Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup margarine
  • 1/3 cup butter flavor shortening
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


Beat margarine and shortening on medium to high for about 30 seconds.
Add about half of the flour, the egg, sugar, milk, baking powder, and vanilla.
Beat until thoroughly combined.
Beat in remaining flour.
Divide dough in half, cover and chill for 3 hours.

Preheat oven to 375°
On lightly floured surface roll half of the dough to desired thickness and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters.
Bake for 7 to 8 minutes for thinner cookies and 9 to 10 minutes for thicker cookies. When the edges turn golden brown the cookies are done. Leave in cookie sheet for a couple of minutes to prevent the cookies from breaking.
